The redirection of tram lines 2 and 44, planned by Wiener Linien and carried out in the summer of 2017, marks the beginning of the redesign and traffic-calming of Johann Nepomuk-Berger-Platz between Ottakringer Straße and Ottakringer Brauerei. The two, separate green-spaces are to be designed in 2018 to form a 3,800 m² park.
Have a say, join in, co-design!
From March to May 2017, local people were asked how the local space should be redesigned. Numerous residents and park-users took advantage of this opportunity to participate and expressed their wishes and ideas for the square.
The GB * (Urban Renewal Offices) team organized consultation hours in the café located directly in front of the square and hosted three park-talks on the topics of water supply, seating, dog-zone, green-zones and lighting. Experts from MA 28 (Traffic Administration and Road Construction) and Wiener Linien (Vienna public transport) gave on-the-spot information about the organization of traffic.
During this process, suggestions and input on the project could also be submitted via e-mail, blog or Facebook as well as in person at the GB * -based in Haberlgasse in Ottakring. The results of this formed an important basis for the planning done by the MA 42 (Wiener Stadtgärten, Vienna’s municipal parks), which started in June 2017. In November, the plans were shared at three events and discussed with local people.
What’s next?
In 2018 the park and side-streets will be rebuilt. Further information about the project: https://www.gbstern.at/themen-projekte/beteiligung/johann-nepomuk-berger-platz/
