The desire for urban gardening is great. As urban area experts, urban renewal offices support local initiatives in public spaces which increase the quality of life in the densely built-up areas of Vienna and strengthen the neighbourhood – such as neighbourly gardeners!
Most of the shared neighbourhood gardens are organized by a club. Anyone who is a member can join in or, if there is no more space available, be put on a waiting list.
A slightly different approach stands behind the so-called "open gardens". A concept that has already been successfully implemented in Linz, Graz or Berlin - and for two years now also in Vienna, in the urban development area Althangrund. Here in the Nordberg garden, the allotments are not assigned to individuals, but are planted jointly.
The District Regeneration Offices provide information and advice and accompany neighbourhood projects in urban regeneration areas and in large urban development areas.
