Stadt Wien – Wiener Wohnen manages approx. 220,000 municipal flats in around 1,800 blocks. It is the largest municipal housing company in Europe. One in four Viennese citizens lives in municipal housing; in total that’s around 500,000 people. The goal of Wiener Wohnen is to administrate, construct and renovate rented municipal flats - especially for families and people with low incomes and in a vulnerable situation. Due to the high social responsibility of the company, Wiener Wohnen offers a lot of social services for the tenants (e.g. conflict management, mediation, social workers etc.) and works together with community workers, the police, other municipal departments and non-profit organisations to improve the quality of life in the blocks and in the districts.
