A framework for housing research
The research programme led by Vienna’s Housing Research Division (Wiener Wohnbauforschung) is based upon a framework programme which was developed in 2011 with the aim of defining current research areas and integrating research activities into current developments with respect to habitation, housing construction and urban renewal. The focus of the research is mainly based on four defined priorities:
- Affordable housing
- Technical and ecological qualities and standards for new housing construction
- Technical and ecological qualities and standards for refurbishments
- Living in communities
International co-operation
In addition to the above, the international aspect of the Vienna Housing Research Programme presents a cross-sectional approach to assess the Viennese experience and achievements in comparison with those of other cities and to learn from best practices at the international level. At the same time, these areas of focus allow for enhanced networking with other Austrian and European research programmes through participation in EU projects or through bilateral co-operation and partnerships with other cities on specific topics.
